Laser hair removal M22 - Medicines and products contraindicated

Please make sure that the medication, herb, other preparation, etc., you are taking is on the list of contraindicated drugs and substances before you register for laser hair removal, M22 treatment.

PHOTOSENSITISING MEDICINES

The active ingredients of certain medicines can cause photosensitivity and their use requires caution. Photosensitising medicines intensify the effects of sunlight, trigger a phototoxic reaction, release oxygen free radicals when exposed to UV radiation and may cause sunburn, red, itchy, blistering skin symptoms in areas exposed to sunlight.

The appearance of these symptoms is not dependent on the individual, and everyone should expect them if they are taking photosensitising medication or using sunscreen and are in the sun.  The most common photosensitising products are: some antibiotics, creams for muscle strains, joint pain, some pain and inflammation relievers, some antifungal products, etc.

Pharmacological agents that often cause photosensitivity as a side effect:

If you are taking a medicine that is labelled +++++, i.e. it often causes photosensitivity, do not have laser hair removal and M22 treatment while you are taking the medicine and for 2 weeks after you stop taking it.

If the medicine you are taking contains the active substance isotretinoin (known medicines such as Acnenormin, Curacne, Isotrex, Isotrexin, Roaccutane, Sotret, Tretinak), do not undergo any cosmetic procedures, including laser hair removal and M22 treatments, while you are taking the medicine and for 5 to 6 months afterwards.

The following table lists the active substances of the medicinal product that may cause photosensitivity as a side effect:

If you are taking a medication that is marked ++, inform the person who is treating you about the medication.

OTHER PHOTOSENSITISING SUBSTANCES

• cyclamate-containing sweeteners
• halogenated deodorants
• perfumes (e.g. lemon oil, lavender oil)
• tattooing substances (cadmium sulphate)
• furocoumarin-containing plants (celery, parsley, parsnips, primrose, caucasian bear's-foot)

Avoid using more than the average amount of these substances in the two weeks before treatment.
